Date: Thursday 16 April 2026

Time: 10am until 4.30pm

Venue: Baltic, Gateshead

Brighter Futures is a collaboration between the NIHR funded Gateshead Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC), Newcastle University, Youth Focus North East, Fuse – Centre for Translational Research in Public Health, and NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) North East and North Cumbria. Young people have been involved in the planning of this conference and will also be involved in its delivery. It will include a range of presentations and interactive workshops aimed at developing meaningful collaborations and the exchange of ideas amongst researchers, practitioners, young people, and policy makers.

The conference will include a keynote talk by Professor Alice Wiseman, Director of Public Health in Gateshead and Newcastle.

It will also include a Young People’s Panel.

It is designed to:

  • Connect lived experience, research, policy and practice to improve health outcomes with young people in the North East.
  • Raise the profile of issues affecting the health inequalities experienced by young people.
  • Showcase the latest research and initiatives designed to support young people to thrive (public, private and not-for-profit).
  • Create a space to develop future project collaborations and activity design.

Delegates will have an opportunity to submit questions to the young people’s panel. Details on how to do this will be sent out after registration.
