Understanding academic research papers – training session for social care professionals in the North East/North Cumbria region

Online meeting

This session has now passed.

Materials from the first session can be downloaded below.

This training introduces social care professionals to the skills needed to read and understand academic research papers – which is sometimes called ‘critical appraisal’ of papers.

The sessions will help you to evaluate the trustworthiness and reliability of papers and consider how the research could be applied in a social care context.

The first session took place in October. The content included how to identify different study designs, consider strengths and weaknesses of study methods and be able to decide whether to change practice based on the results of a study. The second session takes place in January and places have already been allocated.
