Delivering tier 2 weight management services for higher risk groups: Learning for practice and policy

Delivering tier 2 weight management services for higher risk groups: Learning for practice and policy

Tuesday 8 April, 1pm until 2pm

Online

Background to this event

To help tackle obesity, the UK Government announced a new grant to fund more Tier 2 weight management services for adults in 2021/22.

Researchers supported by the NIHR ARC North East and North Cumbria led a survey to find out what types of services were being offered through the new grant and who they were available to.

They also spoke with people who commission, deliver and use these services to understand what made these services work well, and not so well.

They focused on Tier 2 services for people from higher-risk groups i.e., men, people with a physical or learning disability, people from an ethnic minority group, people with a serious mental illness, and people living in poorer areas.

What will this event cover?

In this seminar, the research team will present the findings of the work.

They will then explore how the findings could influence policy and practice.

Who is this event for?

This seminar is open to everyone, although it will be particularly relevant to professionals involved in the commissioning, development and implementation of tier 2 weight management services, especially services for higher-risk groups.

It will be delivered via MS teams and there will opportunities for questions and discussions.

About the research team

This event will be delivered by Dr Mackenzie Fong, Dr Lorraine McSweeney and Dr Charlotte Rothwell, Newcastle University.
