Evaluating the nutrition and BMI clinical pathway in mental health services

Online meeting

Thursday 27 May 2021, 1.30pm – 2.30pm

About the event

People with lived experience of mental health conditions and those with learning disabilities are at an increased risk of premature morbidity despite many of these causes being preventable. It is thought that two thirds of these deaths are from avoidable physical illnesses that are linked with unhealthy lifestyles including poor diet and low levels of physical activity, resulting in them being more likely to be overweight or have obesity than the rest of the population.

‘A Weight off Your Mind’ is a regional weight management plan that aims to address growing concerns regarding excess weight in people with mental illness and/or learning disabilities. This presentation introduces an NIHR ARC North East and North Cumbria-funded project, which supports an evaluation of an aspect of the ‘A Weight off Your Mind’ plan, focusing on a nutrition screening tool and recovery-focussed pathway, where service users are encouraged to take control of their own weight management plan.

Dr Emma Giles, Jo Smith and Heidi Stevens will present on the project for 30 minutes of the session. Following the presentation, questions will be invited from webinar participants for the remainder of the webinar.
