Launch of new Ethical Practice Guidance
Launch of new Ethical Practice Guidance – developed by the NIHR ARC NENC and partners
Thursday 17 October, 12.30pm until 2pm
Online (Teams)
The NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) North East and North Cumbria (NENC) has developed a new guide aimed at supporting ethical public involvement and community engagement (PICE) in research.
The guidelines aim to support researchers, public contributors, practitioners and anyone interested in health and care research to work towards ethically sound research practice specifically for the Public Patient Involvement/ Engagement (PPI/PPIE) element of the work.
Background to this work
The development of this guidance began as a result of discussions in 2023, where issues were raised by ARC public partners and ARC researchers about conducting research in sensitive areas of work, such a childhood trauma, domestic abuse, serious mental illness etc.
A small working group of public contributors, researchers and Public Involvement and Community Engagement (PICE) group members co-produced these guidelines, which we hope will encourage the development of ethical literacy (a better understanding of ethical issues) in relation to PICE amongst the research community.
The guidance covers some of the key aspects that people might want to consider before undertaking PICE activity.
This launch event is aimed at researchers, PhD students, public partners, VCSE, PICE leads and anyone from NIHR infrastructure organisations. All are welcome to attend.
