Join our new Mental Health Special Interest Group – and help to shape research and care in our region

Do you have an interest in mental health? If so, we’d like to invite you to join a new Special Interest Group for Mental Health in our region.

The purpose of the group is to join-up researchers with practitioners and public members, to help us share ideas and new developments related to an integrated approach to mental health research and care delivery.

As a member of the group, you’ll play an important part in helping to shape research and care in key areas of mental health concern in our region – including homelessness, suicide prevention, emergency care and mental health in schools.

Working to expand mental health research and capacity in our region.

It’s Mental Health Awareness Week this week – delivered by the Mental Health Foundation – which offers an opportunity to put mental health into the spotlight.

Our region has the third-highest rate of common mental health problems for adults in the country, and a high incidence of severe mental health conditions. It also has the highest rates of adolescent self-harm and the highest levels of heavy alcohol use and substance-related deaths in the country.

As an Applied Research Collaboration (ARC), we have a strong focus on early intervention to prevent mental health problems, as well as supporting those most in need – who often experience multiple deprivation and marginalisation.

We’re also working to expand mental health research & capacity in our region. This includes supporting mental health practitioners and researchers working in key areas of concern – such as homelessness, suicide prevention, emergency care and mental health in schools.
