Dr Hollie Smith is an applied behavioural scientist with expertise in health promotion and the development, implementation and evaluation of complex behaviour change interventions to support the primary, secondary and tertiary prevention of long-term health conditions.
Much of Hollie’s research and clinical practice to date has focussed on supporting individuals with long-term physical and mental health conditions to initiate and sustain behavioural changes to improve their health and quality of life.
She is experienced in qualitative and mixed methods approaches, complex intervention delivery, and the application of key health psychology theories and methodologies.
Hollie also has a keen interest in how stigma, health inequalities and wider social determinants influence an individual’s capability, opportunity and motivation to enact health-related behaviour change.
She is also interested in the role that healthcare professionals play in encouraging and supporting behavioural change, as well as the training, professional development and resources they need to feel confident in doing this.
Hollie is interested in work that aims to prevent or reduce the physical, psychological and social burdens that individuals living with long-term physical and mental health conditions may face.
Alongside her role as a Research Fellow, Hollie is also training to become a HCPC-accredited Practitioner Health Psychologist which will allow her to support individuals in both a research and a clinical capacity.
