Jenny Gibbs is a part-time Social Care Research Fellow, linked to our Supporting Children and Families theme
Background
Since qualifying as a social worker in 2011, Jenny has worked in two statutory roles; as a Youth Offending Case Manager and Social Worker in a 14-18 Children and Families Team.
She currently works part-time as a children’s hospital social worker for the charity, Young Lives vs Cancer.
In Sept 2022-Aug 2024, Jenny secured a Pre-Doctoral Fellowship with NIHR, hosted by Young Lives vs Cancer and the University of Cambridge. This enabled her to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health and Health Services Research at Newcastle University.
She also undertook a mixed-methods project exploring interagency working between CAMHS and Children’s Services when CAMHS have safeguarding concerns about a child in their parents’ care.
Jenny has also completed two systematic literature reviews about the factors which influence child welfare workers’ decision making about neglect.
Jenny joined as an ARC Social Care Fellow (based at Newcastle University) in September 2024.
Jenny is a member of the British Association of Social Workers (BASW) Practitioner Research Group.
Summary of research project
Jenny is currently working with other researchers at Newcastle University on the ENTRAC study (Examining the normalisation of trauma-informed care in children’s social care).
Jenny is also developing a PhD proposal.
