Professor Luke Vale is the theme lead for Enabling Methodologies.
He is a health economist by training and has an international reputation in economic evaluation and health technology assessment – and is based at Newcastle University.
His applied research interests lie in the development and application of methods that allow the evaluation of policies and services at pace and at the scale. Evaluation at pace means completing evaluations quickly and not at the speed of many ‘gold standard’ evaluations based upon some randomised controlled trials that can take years to complete. Evaluation at scale means considering the impacts of change at a health and social care system level as opposed to typical health technology assessments that consider an average effect.
