Sarah Norman is working with the NIHR ARC North East and North Cumbria as an embedded Knowledge Mobilisation Fellow.
She is also a System Change Lead for Inclusion Health at Sunderland City Council.
Sarah is a Public Health Lead with a passion for leading system change programmes of work that create strategic vision to improve and protect health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities within resident populations. Prior to her career in Public Health, she gained over 20 years’ experience in the criminal justice system leading on harm reduction.
Her focus as a System Change Lead for Inclusion Health within Sunderland City has involved driving efforts to improve health equity and access for underserved populations. This involves coordinating initiatives that address barriers to healthcare, fostering collaboration across the system, and implementing strategies to address the unmet needs for those who face multiple complexities.
She has experience of working on a range of agendas in Public Health including Best Start in Life and the Wider Determinants of Health workstreams.
Throughout her career, she has acted as a voice for those that are seldom heard and her experience has been gathered in demanding and challenging environments including the police service.
As a Knowledge Mobilisation Fellow, she hopes to build on her experience in system change and inclusion health to drive meaningful, evidence-based improvements across the health and care system.
Her ambition is to bridge the gap between research and practice by translating complex evidence into actionable strategies that address the unmet needs of socially excluded populations.
She also hopes to amplify the impact of ARC research, champion a culture of learning and innovation, and contribute to a legacy of fairer, more accessible health and care services for all.
