Brief overview of training

  • The importance and impact of positive and negative language
  • Understanding social and medical models of disability
  • Providing an overview of the history of Disability Equality Legislation
  • Definng disability and discussing personal views and experiences
  • Discussing barriers that disabled people face

Session two

Brief overview of training

  • Understanding of the Care Act and its impact on disabled people, carers and families
  • Understanding of The Equality Duty and how Disability Impact Assessments should inform policies
  • The importance of engaging disabled people in research projects
  • Barriers to involving disabled people in research
  • Power balances within consultation and research
  • Models of engagement and involvement
