Contact Dr Gemma Donovan

Gemma Donovan is a Research Fellow within our Care Improvement and Safety research theme.

She’s an applied health services researcher specialising in digital health, medicines optimisation, and patient safety.

Gemma has a focus on how technology can improve care delivery across health and care settings. This combines her research and previous professional experience as a pharmacist, behavioural science lead for a health technology SME, and digital implementation specialist and product owner in the NHS.

Her research integrates behavioural science, human centred design, and implementation science to develop and evaluate digital interventions (e.g. text messaging, data platforms, point-of-care testing) that support safer, more effective, and equitable health and social care.

Gemma is also aligned to the Northern Ophthalmic Research and Innovation (NORI) Institute hosted by the University of Sunderland.
