Promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in our research

The NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) for the North East and North Cumbria (NENC) is committed to actively and openly supporting and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI).

We always aim to be a diverse and inclusive collaboration, both in terms of the people who lead and run the NIHR ARC NENC, and the people who lead, deliver and are involved in our research.

To achieve this we will work to:

  • Understand the causes of any inequities and barriers to diversity in ARC NENC training, research and delivery, and understand the interventions that work to address these
  • Extend our reach to include communities where our research will make the biggest difference, and involve a broad range of patients, public and carers at every step
  • Embed equality, diversity and inclusion in our culture and the way we work, so that we can attract the best people and take forward the best ideas and the best research.

We are guided by the NIHR principles for promoting equality, diversity and inclusion.
