Applications are invited for a talented and ambitious Research Associate/Senior Research Associate to join the NIHR ARC North East and North Cumbria’s Supporting Children and Families theme, to develop better integrated health and social care for children and their families, improving outcomes and reducing inequalities. The post will be based with Newcastle University.

Key to the development of this theme is the bringing together of the six North East Universities of Cumbria, Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland and Teesside as well as the NHS, local and national government, and both voluntary and community sector organisations to improve children and young people’s health and wellbeing and tackle inequalities.

We will also be working closely with research active practitioners in nursing, midwifery, the allied health professions, social work, psychology, paediatrics, medicine and associated academic specialities. We have strong links with the Great Northern Children’ Research Community (GNCHRC), a group of nearly five hundred experienced researchers and research interested practitioners from across the region.

We are also members of Fuse, the Centre for Translational Research in Public Health and the School of Public Health and Primary Care.

The Supporting Children and Families Theme will focus on four broad research areas and we are interested in applicants with research expertise in any of these areas:

Creating a better start in life and supporting continuities of care across childhood
Reducing social inequalities in aetiology and access
Mobilising community resources to support the management of chronic conditions
Listening to children’s voices in diverse communities
