ARC North East and North Cumbria welcomes new Chief Operating Officer

The NIHR ARC NENC has appointed a new Chief Operating Officer. Oonagh McGee will lead the strategic management and delivery of the ARC NENC programme and joins the Collaboration at a key time as it approaches its mid-funding point.

Her early priorities are to build and strengthen relationships with partners across the region, as well as measuring and articulating the impact of the ARC NENC programme so far. She is passionate about public involvement and community engagement in research, and this will be a particular area of focus, alongside identifying and communicating success.

New project aims to bring trauma-focussed mental health support to children in care

A new project supported by the ARC NENC aims to bring NICE recommended trauma-focused mental health care to young people in care.

Young people who have experienced care have much higher rates of mental health difficulties than their peers. The project will explore what needs to happen to increase access to evidence-based treatments, like trauma-focused CBTs.

PICE in Applied Health and Social Care – advice and support session

Three sessions available to book: Wed 23 March, Wed 22 June, Wed 19 October

This is an informal drop-in session for anyone linked to the ARC NENC who would like PICE- related advice or support to develop public involvement and community engagement in research.

The event offers an informal opportunity to meet and chat with our PICE Manager Dr Felicity Shenton and PICE Research Fellow Dr Angela Wearn, together with members of the ARC Public Advisory Network and ask any questions about involving the public, service users and local communities when shaping or conducting your research work.

Please note this is an internal event for ARC NENC members.

Fuse – 5th International Conference

Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 June – Newcastle Upon Tyne

Registration is now open for the 5th Fuse international conference – ‘Learning from Setbacks and Successes’. The two-day event will feature around 50 sessions on a wide range of topics and will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Newcastle.

Developing funding proposals in applied health and social care: NIHR Funding Opportunities

Thursday 10 March, 10 am – 12.30 pm

The NIHR Research Design Service (RDS) North West is offering this online session for those who want to develop and submit a research funding application to one of the NIHR funding programmes.

This event is aimed at professionals and researchers in the NHS, public health and social care, as well as academics.

OPPORTUNITIES 

Public Health Interventions Responsive Studies Teams (PHIRST) – call for Local Authority initiatives

The Public Health Research (PHR) Programme are accepting Expressions of Interest from Local Authorities (LAs) that have initiatives in need of research and evaluation. The shortlisted Expressions of Interest will be given to Public Health Intervention Responsive Studies Teams (PHIRST) to co-produce research into.

LAs are invited to submit an expression of interest to identify specific initiatives within their work programmes that will benefit from research or evaluation input. The PHR Programme has now appointed six fully-funded academic teams, ready to work in partnership with LAs to co-design and undertake robust research on prioritised initiatives.

NIHR Programme Grants for Applied Research – Competition 38

NIHR Programme Grants for Applied Research (PGfAR) competition 38 is inviting stage one applications for research proposals to develop individual programmes of applied health research.

Competition 38 features a highlight notice calling specifically for varied research approaches to address National Institute for Clinical Excellence and NIHR priorities in multiple long-term conditions.

Decision Aid for Digital Mental Health Interventions

Applications are invited for a talented Research Fellow with expertise in mixed methods research to work on an ARC NENC-funded project. The project aims to co-design a prototype decision aid to support engagement of service users and primary care mental health practitioners in shared decision-making discussions about available options for digital mental health interventions (DMHIs).

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) ARC Mental Health Implementation Network (MHIN) – Programme Deputy Lead and Project Leads.

Are you an academic, senior clinical leader or an expert by experience? Do you work in mental health practice, policy, or research and have interest and experience in implementation?
The NIHR MHIN are looking for experienced, creative and strategic individuals who will be able to lead on implementation and evaluation at multiple project sites as part of MHIN’s ongoing work and take the programme into the next delivery phase.

Have your say in shaping research for Adult Social Work and Social Care

Nine Applied Research Collaborations (ARCs) are working together on a national priorities programme of research, which will help improve the quality and experience of Adult Social Care for people that access these services.

As part of this they are looking to recruit a group of public contributors with different experiences of accessing Adult Social Care Service to advise on the work.  This could be experience as someone with social care needs or as a family carer. If you are interested, and would like more information, please contact [email protected]

Open call for abstracts: Child Health and Wellbeing Network CYP Inequalities Virtual Event

A call is open for the submission of abstracts to share projects and best practice from across the North East and North Cumbria for the Child Health and Wellbeing Network CYP Inequalities Virtual Event on 20th May 2022.

Submitted projects must have a focus on addressing and reducing health inequalities in at least one of the following areas: access to healthcare, improving experience, improving outcomes for children, young people and families.

The search is on to find #NorthInnovationWomen 2022

A campaign celebrating innovative women across the North has returned for its fifth year.

The Northern Health Science Alliance (NHSA) and the N8 Research Partnership have teamed up to deliver #NorthInnovationWomen for 2022.

The social media campaign recognises women who are pushing the boundaries of innovation within their fields. If you would like to suggest someone, nominations are open until 2 March.
