Durham Infancy and Sleep Centre’s 22nd Anniversary Conference on Implementing Infant Sleep Research in Practice

This event is a celebration of 20+ years of work at Durham Infancy and Sleep Centre. Several international speakers will be sharing how they’ve implemented aspects of the Centre’s research in practice. The aim of the conference is to inspire attendees to use research to make change.

Leadership skills development

Upcoming NIHR Academy virtual workshops and webinars are available for leadership skills development. Please note that these are aimed at people in leadership and management roles.

Pre-doctoral Local Authority Fellowship (PLAF) applications are now open

These fellowships offer a fantastic opportunity for those working in local authorities or their supporting services, who are keen to develop as a health and/or social care researcher.

This fully funded pre-doctoral fellowship will enable awardees to retain their existing employment contracts and salaries, whilst protecting their time to prepare an application for a PhD fellowship and undertake a fully funded programme of relevant Masters’ level training.

Tips for writing a Plain English summary of your research project

A ‘Plain English’ summary is a clear, brief summary of research that has been written for members of the public, rather than researchers or professionals. In this new blog, our Public Involvement and Community Engagement Manager, Felicity Shenton shares some tips and resources to help researchers to create a strong Plain English summary of their work.

Call for nominations – up to £1000 Mental Health Research Incubator Awards

What mental health research is making a difference in your field, profession, or organisation right now? The Mental Health Research (MHR) Incubator wants to recognise the most impactful work in mental health research today.

You can nominate projects within a particular service, at a regional or national level, or methods work which is changing how mental health research is done for the better. There are four categories of award:

  • Collaborative involvement of patients and /or the public
  • Building research in underserved areas
  • Mental health innovation
  • Early impact of research

The Incubator for Mental Health Research inspires and offers practical advice to current and aspiring researchers. Whether you’re undertaking research now, are working or studying in a related field, and/or wish to use your lived experience in research, there are lots of resources available on their website.

UKRI Healthy Ageing Catalyst Awards Open for 2022

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) are inviting outline proposals for the Healthy Ageing Catalyst Awards. The prize, though funded by UKRI, is part of the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) healthy longevity global competition.

The award provides grants for academics based at UK Research Organisations to translate high-risk, high-reward research into products and services to assist with healthy ageing. Projects with the potential to be sustained through a commercial spin-out, social enterprise, IP licensing or other models are also welcomed.

Applicants must have a PhD or similar research experience and be based at a UK research organisation eligible for funding. The Catalyst Awards will provide £50,000 for one year at 80% full Economic Cost (fEC).

Expressions of interest should be submitted by the 22 February 2022

Training survey – mental health data science

DATAMIND – the Health Data Research Hub for Mental Health – would like to provide training and career development opportunities for early-career researchers in the area of mental health data science. To do this, they are running a survey to understand what opportunities would be useful for researchers with an interest in this area.

They are interested in a wide range of opinions, from early-career to senior researchers, regardless of education and work background. They would love to hear even from those who have no current experience in the use and linkage of datasets for health research.

Senior Research Assistant/Research Assistant – Northumbria University

Understanding the implementation of ‘Making Every Contact Count’ (MECC) delivered by healthcare professionals in a Mental Health setting: A pragmatic process evaluation.

This role is to work on a research project funded by the Applied Research Collaboration for the North East and North Cumbria (as part of the Prevention, Early Intervention and Behaviour Change theme). The aim of this evaluation is to inform the implementation plan for Making Every Contact Count (MECC) and facilitate successful implementation of the bespoke MECC training at scale. This project will be conducted within a mental health inpatient setting, and community treatment teams across Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW).
