NIHR CRN NENC Targeting Health Needs funding awards – closes Friday 12 November

REMINDER: The deadline to submit an Expression of Interest form for the CRN NENC Targeting Health Needs funding awards is Friday 12 November.

The aim of the awards is to support the development of research that addresses the unmet health needs of local populations based on two categories:

Category A) Bringing clinical & applied research to underserved communities with major health needs (Specialties especially; Cancer including Surgical Oncology, Diabetes, Respiratory, Heart Disease, Stroke, Mental Health and Dementia)

Category B) Building capacity & capability in preventative, public health & social care research (Public health, Non-NHS and Social Care)

Anybody who works in healthcare, social care and public health who will deliver or design research in the North East and North Cumbria can apply.

Lockdown Life NE – film premiere

Wednesday 10 November, 5pm – 6.30pm, Alphabetti Theatre, Newcastle (tickets are free)

Lockdown Life North East is a project that explores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on young people across our region over the past 18 months, by conducting interviews and curating diaries. The young people involved have since created a film about their experiences, which will launch on 10 November.

The project has been led by researchers from Newcastle University/NIHR ARC NENC and supported by the North East Youth Alliance (NEYA).

We are seeking an ARC research fellow to join our Multi-Morbidity, Ageing and Frailty theme.

The position is based at the Helen McArdle Nursing and Care Research Institute at the University of Sunderland.

The position is full-time for three years. Applications close on 11 November.

Event: Men’s health and wellbeing in Middlesbrough – with #BoroManCan

Friday 19 November, 1pm – 2.30pm

Join us on International Men’s Day for a webinar to discuss Men’s Health and Wellbeing in Middlesbrough.

The event will focus on the #BORO MAN CAN campaign which aims to inspire positive behavioural, health and culture change amongst men in Middlesbrough. It will include key findings from an evaluation of the campaign, funded by the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) North East and North Cumbria (NENC). The event is delivered in partnership with the NIHR ARC NENC, Fuse, the Centre for Translational Research in Public Health, and the NIHR School for Public Health Research.

Fuse research programme meeting – Parental substance abuse and young people’s resilience

Wednesday 10 November, 10am – 12pm

This event will share findings from a recent research project aimed at exploring young people’s experiences and impacts of living with parental substance misuse and explore ideas for how we can best support young people whose parents drink alcohol or use drugs. It is delivered in partnership with ADFAM – a national charity tackling the effects of addiction on family members, and is linked to the ARC NENC Supporting Children and Families Theme.

Highlight notice for varied research approaches to address NICE and NIHR priorities in multiple long term conditions (MLTC)

A highlight notice for varied research approaches to address NICE and NIHR priorities in MLTC has been published. The highlight will apply to all PGfAR and PDG calls (to develop a future programme) throughout 2022.

Expressions of interest are sought from any professional in a clinical background including medical, nursing, public health, pharmacist, and allied health professional who has a passion for personalised care, championing the principles and practice of the Universal Model, and is willing to take on this responsibility alongside the Regional Personalised Care Team.

This role is funded for up to one day per week, initially up until 31st March 2022.

The closing date for applications is close of business on 12 November, all applications should be submitted via [email protected]
