Professionals needed for study into fathers’ mental health

We’re looking for professionals who work with families around the perinatal period, to share their views as part of a PhD research project into paternal mental health.

The study is being led by ARC NENC PhD researcher Ashleigh Watkins, who is based at Newcastle University.

Her PhD project explores fathers’ mental health and well-being experiences within the transition to fatherhood, identifying what is beneficial to fathers and what needs to be improved within paternal perinatal mental health support and care.

The initial stage of her project involved working directly with fathers, and she is now looking for professionals from across the North East and North Cumbria to share their views and perspectives of the current available paternal perinatal mental health support for dads.

She is keen to hear from professionals from the health, social care and voluntary sectors who associate with paternal perinatal mental health, perinatal mental health or supporting families within the transition to parenthood, and who are familiar with current available support for fathers within the area.

Participation will involve an interview or focus group with other members of your organisation with a researcher at Newcastle University. These will be conducted confidentially either face-to-face or online and take around 60 minutes.

As a thanks for our time, you’ll receive a £25 amazon voucher. If you would like to participate in this research, please contact Ashleigh Watkins PhD Student Researcher by email at [email protected]
