PhD research project: How should we measure and value changes in child quality of life for use in economic evaluation, in the context of obesity management?

Project Summary: This project is focused on exploring the methods used to estimate young people’s quality of life in the context of obesity. More specifically it will explore which preference-based measures have been used measure quality of life in YP and which preference elicitation methods have been used to value these measures? The project is also interested in the underlying decision mechanisms used by both adults and young people when completing preference-based measures and how these may differ between these two groups. Additionally, the comparability of adults and young people’s responses to preference-based measures will be analysed in the context of obesity.

My Background and research interests: I am a PhD researcher at Newcastle University. My PhD is investigating how we should measure and value changes in child quality of life for use in economic evaluation, in the context of obesity management. Prior to my PhD, I was employed as a Training Fellow (Health Economics) which involved conducting both within-trial and model-based economic evaluations for healthcare-technology assessments. My main research interests are preference elicitation, economic evaluation and economic modelling. I recently completed a Masters in Public Health at Newcastle University (2021) and prior to this conducted a BSc in Economics at Newcastle University (2019).

Expected PhD completion date: February 2026
