Defining roles for public contributors in health and care research – a new framework
The National Institute for Health and Care Research has updated its guidance on the many ways in which patients, carers, service users, communities and members of the public (known as ‘public contributors’ or ‘community members’) can be involved in NIHR activity.
For the first time, this new framework displays all these roles in one place. It was developed between 2021 and 2024, informed by a cross-NIHR staff working group, and stakeholder engagement with NIHR staff and public contributors.
